Executive Staff



Following graduation from the University of Washington in 1971 with a degree in Architecture, Tom began his career as an architect with several Seattle area firms specializing in design of medical facilities. In 1975 he founded The Johnston Associates, Inc., a Bainbridge Island, WA, architectural firm specializing in design of residential and or senior congregate housing projects. His early project included the first HUD 232 co-insured assisted living community in the country. He also formed Northwest Care Senior Living in 1990 to provide development, marketing, operation and management services for independent, assisted living and Alzheimer’s projects. To date, he has been involved in the design, development and/or operation of more than 35 assisted living projects in three states and Canada.



Tom, has over 40 years of experience in capitol and expense management and human resources in healthcare and other sectors. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a BA in Business Administration.


Vice President of Corporate Operations

Darah oversees the corporate operations and has been with Northwest Care Senior Living since 1995. She is responsible for property ownership relations, overseeing development and design for each Northwest Care managed property. Darah is a graduate of Cal Lutheran University, with a BA in Marketing.


Director of Finance

Mary has 28+ years experience in the accounting field and has been with Northwest Care Senior Living since 1996. She is responsible for all of the accounting functions for each facility managed as well as that of Northwest Care Senior Living. She is a graduate of Western Washington University with a BA in Accounting.
